Andrew Wilson (ed.), Patrick Heron: Catalogue Raisonné of the Oil Paintings
Patrick Heron (1920-1999) was a leading and influential figure among the gifted generation of artists that emerged in Britain after the Second World War. British by birth and European by inclination, he revered above all others Cézanne, Matisse, Bonnard and Braque, artists whose work informed his ideas about art and the development of an extraordinary oeuvre that took as its principle subject the interactions of colour, light and space.
While Heron’s work has been the subject of outstanding institutional exhibitions in Britain, North America and Australia, and of major publications, including Mel Gooding Patrick Heron (1995) and Michael McNay Patrick Heron (2002), the forthcoming catalogue raisonné will reveal for the first time the full extent of the paintings’ oeuvre. Not only will this major publication illustrate and catalogue every oil painting (over 1,000) Heron made, it will also show more clearly than before the remarkable progression from his boyhood paintings to his glorious late paintings, and every stage between.
Each entry will comprise an illustration of the work, descriptive information, comprehensive provenance, exhibition history and bibliography. In addition, the book will include critical essays about the oeuvre and an extensive chronology.
The project is supported by the Patrick Heron Trust.
