About the author

Ann Gallagher is an independent curator and writer. From 2006-2019 she was Director of Collections for British Art at Tate, and before that was Senior Curator in the Visual Arts Department of the British Council. Among the many exhibitions she has curated are Rachel Whiteread’s Venice Biennale exhibition in 1997 and the artist’s major retrospective at Tate Britain in 2017.

Ann has published on a wide range of artists, including Zarina Bhimji, Susan Hiller, Damien Hirst, Helio Oiticica, Rose Wylie and Rachel Whiteread.
